Rebecca Nason
Rebecca Nason
Inspired early by a family of keen naturalists and art lovers, Rebecca has had a passion for wildlife, particularly birds, since an early age. Brought up near Cambridge, she studied Geography and Environmental Studies in Winchester followed by a Certificate in Ornithology & MSc in Conservation Management. She soon started taking environmental based contracts, often in remote, Island locations in between travelling extensively abroad which fuelled and developed her bird photography. Her most enjoyable contract was as Assistant Warden and Seabird Officer on Fair Isle, Britain’s birding “mecca” which combined scientific research with daily census work, rarity finding and photography. She has been a freelance bird photographer for 15 years, having work published widely alongside work as an ecologist and wildlife tour-guide. She has held a BTO “C” ringers permit and has been a full member of CIEEM for many years.
Rebecca moved to Shetland permanently in 2013 with her partner Phil. In 2014 she had her first photographic book published entitled “Discover Shetland’s Birds” and developed a keen interest in Shetland insects, particularly hoverfly recording and photography. They now reside in their B&B townhouse overlooking Lerwick Harbour with their daughter Ayda Ruby. They run the #1Noss Boat, offering daily wildlife boat cruises from Lerwick to the seabird colonies around Noss NNR as well as bespoke wildlife photography experiences from land and sea!
